Who We Are

A Christian congregation with a Lutheran heritage that unites people of diverse backgrounds by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, growing in faith and nurturing each other for life and service.

Church of All Nations made up of people with faith and hope in the living savior, Jesus Christ. We are a vibrant community gathered for worship, discovery, and service in Christ in a dynamic and exciting part of Hong Kong. While we live and work in many places, we gather in Repulse Bay, Hong Kong on the campus of Hong Kong International School.

The people of Church of All Nations have a passion for vocation and service in Hong Kong and around Asia. We also are a community that values the welcome of Christ we ourselves have received.

Church of All Nations is part of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod

Our Beliefs

Church of All Nations finds its identity and hope in Jesus Christ and its energy and focus from the Word of God. In the great Reformation tradition, we can summarize our beliefs under Grace, Faith, Scripture, and Christ alone!

As members of the broader Christian family, we confess the ancient ecumenical creeds: the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds as well as the rest of the Lutheran Confessions.

Everyone has roots. Most churches have their roots in a larger Christian denomination or association of churches. Church of All Nations is part of a denomination called The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Not only does this connection provide the stability of historic Bible faithfulness, it also provides greater strength and resources for ministry efforts near and far.

Faith Alone

Our personal connection to God’s word and His grace is established by FAITH ALONE which trusts His Word as a faithful guide in this life and clings to the assurance of our future life with God in heaven.

Grace Alone

Our relationships with God and each other rest on GRACE ALONE, God’s extravagant and overflowing love for the world and the forgiveness He has provided by the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Scripture Alone

Our teachings about God and the Christian faith are taken from SCRIPTURE ALONE, not from denominational councils, ecclesiastical leaders, or by congregational vote. The living Christ and his salvation are revealed in the Bible.

Baptism

Baptism is not just water, but it is water connected with the word and promise of God. Jesus himself promised, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved.” We believe that something powerful happens in baptism. More than an act of obedience on our part, baptism is a means through which God works. We baptize adults, teens, children, and even the tiniest of babies. This is because we believe baptism is entirely God’s work. It is His gift. He gives; we receive.

If you come to Church of All Nations from and have already been baptized in the Christian faith, we share in living out your baptismal identity. If you or your children have not yet been baptized, talk to Pastor Joel or Pastor Kevin.

The Lord’s Supper

In Holy Communion, also known as The Lord’s Supper, God connects individual believers to the sacrifice and death of Jesus.
Church of All Nations offers Holy Communion every Sunday. If you are a baptize believer in Christ and have been instructed in our confession that Jesus offers His body and blood in the forms of bread and wine for your forgiveness, you are welcome to participate. Please talk to the pastor. Our custom is to instruct new believers and children for First Communion through visits with Pastor Joel.

Our Story

I will make you as a light for the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.
(Isaiah 49:6)

In September 1961, Pastor Len Galster joined the Mache family in contacting 400 households in the Repulse Bay area with invitations to Worship and Sunday School. The first Sunday March 4, 1962, saw 18 people in worship and 26 children in Sunday School. Suddenly an amazing opportunity in the field of Christian Education was discovered. In collaboration with the American business community and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Repulse Bay Lutheran Church worked to bring about Hong Kong International School in Repulse Bay which would also host the community of faith renamed as Church of All Nations in 1967. Church of All Nations continues to bless the community of Hong Kong International School, Repulse Bay, and all of Hong Kong. In 2017, Church of All Nations moved from the building that housed it for 50 years across the street into its new chapel home on the campus of the HKIS Lower Primary School.

Church of All Nations has always been a community of people from many countries and backgrounds. People come from around the world to Hong Kong and find the light of Christ at Church of All Nations. Being part of Church of All Nations is not something that happens by chance or luck. It is our Lord who has called us here, to grow in his grace and to shine his light. Who else could put us together as a Church for All Nations!
